Yunnan University professor gets top provincial award

The 2021 Yunnan Science and Technology Awards Conference was held in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province, on July 7.

The conference gave out five first prizes, 13 second prizes and 14 third prizes in the Yunnan Provincial Natural Science Award. It also handed out three first prizes and two third prizes for the Yunnan Provincial Technology Invention Award, as well as 11 first prizes, 26 second prizes and 79 third prizes for the Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award.

Wang Ning, secretary of the provincial Party committee, presented the Yunnan Provincial Talent Training Incentive Award worth 500,000 yuan ($74,556) to Zhang Xiguang, a professor at Yunnan University, or YNU, located in Kunming. For his part, Zhang gave a speech to the conference on behalf of the winners.

Yunnan Governor Wang Yubo extended his congratulations to all the winners and paid tribute to the vast number of scientific and technological personnel in the province.

Wang said that since last year, they had explored the frontiers of science and technology with great results. He urged everyone to focus on the urgent need for economic development to boost people's livelihoods, to strive for more achievements and to promote the high-quality and leap-forward development of Yunnan.
