Yunnan University or YNU, located in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province, recently held a meeting to review its development under the "first-class universities and disciplines" program and map out the next phase.
The double first-class university plan is a national tertiary education initiative which aims to develop leading Chinese universities and their individual faculty departments into world-class institutions by the end of 2050.
Lin Wenxun, secretary of YNU's Party committee, emphasized that the overall goal was to transform the university into a world-class, international and research-oriented world-class academic institution that would help shape learning in the region and the country and whose influence would extend to South and Southeast Asia.
Lin also set out the main goals, issues and areas of work in key areas. These included the development of disciplines, teaching staff members, training and scientific research. They also included the development of social services, comprehensive reforms, international exchanges and cooperation and Party building.
