The Confucius Institute of the University of Tehran, or CIUT – located in Iran – held its 2022 online council on July 12.

Hu Jinming, vice president of Yunnan University – situated in Kunming city, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – and Seyed Mohammad Marandi, vice president of the University of Tehran, participated in the meeting.

CIUT was jointly established by Yunnan University and the University of Tehran. It focuses on teaching Chinese, while promoting academic exchanges and cooperation between the two universities.

The meeting formally received and approved the 2021 work summary, 2022 work plan and financial report.

Hu expressed the desire that Yunnan University and the University of Tehran would continue to work together to train local Chinese teachers, promote the exchange visits of academics in a number of disciplines, support national studies and establish academic journals.

Marandi said that the University of Tehran had always attached great importance to cooperation with Yunnan University and he hoped that the development of CIUT would further improve after the resumption of on-site teaching.

The two sides held in-depth discussions and reached an agreement on important issues such as a joint training program for Chinese majors in the two universities – as well as the expansion of multi-disciplinary exchanges and cooperation in linguistics, water resources, agronomy, artificial intelligence and other fields with the Confucius Institute acting as a bridge.
