The quality and capability of the ISO 15189 medical laboratory of the Affiliated Hospital of Yunnan University has recently received the on-site accreditation of the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS).

ISO 15189 medical laboratory accreditation follows international standards and is an accreditation of international mutual trust, government acceptance, and social credibility.

During the four-day review process, five review experts of CNAS assessed the hospital's five professional groups, including clinical blood and body fluids, clinical biochemistry, clinical immunity, clinical microbiome, and clinical molecular diagnosis.

The inspectors visited four wards – Cardiovascular Medicine, Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, General Surgery Division B, and Bone and Trauma Surgery – to review the quality of the medical laboratory and comprehensive service capabilities via satisfaction surveys and reporting and disposal procedures for Critical Values – a type of abnormal test result indicating that a patient's life may be in danger.

The quality management system and technical capabilities of the medical laboratory have reached the requirements of CNAS-CL02 (equivalent to the international standard ISO 15189).

In addition, the inspection items of the five professional groups that carried out the accreditation process have also achieved global mutual recognition, with various national accreditation bodies signing mutual recognition agreements.

This is the first step towards the international standard quality management of the medical laboratory department of the affiliated hospital. The hospital will work to provide better services for clinical and patients, and pursue high-quality development.
