Yunnan University team volunteers in poor county

Updated: Jul 28, 2022

Five teachers and students from Yunnan University recently went to Lancang Lahu autonomous county, Southwest China's Yunnan province, to carry out volunteer service activities on summer vacation.

The volunteer team visited local farmers' homes, farmlands, and corporate workshops to conduct research on local industry vitalization and sustainable development approaches.

During their trip, the students witnessed the earthshattering changes in the lives of people in Lancang county – a key county-level poverty alleviation and development subject under the Party and the country's rural vitalization strategy – and learned about the current problems villagers are facing.

The team made suggestions to villagers and proposed applying for a trademark patent for tea from the country's Bakanai village and conducting university promotions and sales for the "small tea bag" project of local Hongyao Co.

The team realized that the difficulty in consolidating the achievements of poverty alleviation lies in ensuring employment and the industrial poverty alleviation achievements of poor families and poor areas.

Most of the industries supported by poverty alleviation do not have clear advantages in terms of sustainability or uniqueness. It was recommended that the industries are guided by quality, efficiency and competitiveness, focus on greening, quality, and branding, and plan for rural vitalization.
