Yunnan University co-organizes seminar for college teachers

Sponsored by the National Tianyuan Mathematics Northwest Center and co-organized by the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Yunnan University, the "2022 Data Science Summer Seminar for Teachers of Statistics, Data Science and Big Data Technology in Colleges and Universities" recently opened in Dali Bai autonomous prefecture, Yunnan province.

From 2012 to 2015, the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Yunnan University successfully held the "Summer Training for Young Teachers of Statistics in the Western Region" for four consecutive years, and from 2016 to 2019, it successfully held four "National Statistics Postgraduate Summer Schools".

This time, five well-known domestic experts in data science and statistics – including Professor Tang Niansheng of Yunnan University, Academician Xu Zongben, and Professor Meng Deyu, Professor Xu Songhua, and Professor Sun Jian of Xi'an Jiaotong University – were hired as teaching experts. More than 150 teachers from more than 40 colleges and universities attended the seminar.

The experts gave lectures on the development history and potential value of data science, data science basics, machine learning, and data intelligence, which were well received by teachers participating in the event.

This summer workshop has already completed all expected goals and tasks. This has further enhanced the academic influence of the Statistics Department of Yunnan University and laid a solid foundation for the integrated development of statistics and data science in universities across the country.
