YNU helps promote sports in village in Yunnan

Updated: Sep 2, 2022

A volunteer service team composed of 25 social sports instructors from the School of Physical Education of Yunnan University (YNU) carried out a seven-day national fitness volunteer service this summer in Chudonggua village, Mangshi, Southwest China's Yunnan province.

The team and the village jointly launched a series of activities such as national fitness activities, voluntary guidance services for social sports instructors, and sports equipment donations.

Chudonggua village is known as "the most beautiful traditional village". It is home to the De'ang ethnic group, and investigating traditional minority sports is an important part of the team's work.

Through visits, research and experiences, the team has conducted in-depth research into traditional De’ang sports such as martial arts, stick skills, slingshots, and spinning tops.

The traditional sports of the De'ang ethnic group have become the most interesting part of the team's research activities. Combined with the development of rural cultural vitalization, the team members put forward suggestions by trying to understand the development status and protection of traditional sports, which is signficant to the development of traditional minority sports in Dehong.
