Southwest United Graduate School holds 1st opening ceremony

The first opening ceremony of the Southwest United Graduate School was held in Kunming, capital city of Yunnan province, on Sept 1. Zhang Zhili, vice governor of Yunnan province, as well as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the opening ceremony.

The Southwest United Graduate School is a teaching and research institution jointly promoted by the Ministry of Education and the Yunnan Provincial People's Government in cooperation with Yunnan University. The construction of the school was jointly organized by Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University, while Kunming University of Science and Technology and Yunnan Normal University also participated.

As the dean of the Southwest United Graduate School and president of Yunnan University, Fang Jingyun discussed the founding of the school and said that the school will make use of the resources of the aforementioned six universities to write a new chapter for graduate education in Southwest China.

Integrating with the industrial layout of Yunnan, the school has made it clear that this year it will enroll students in ecology, biology, ethnology, education, materials science and engineering and other disciplines, and has enrolled 300 master's students and 100 doctoral students.

In addition, a provincial-level science and technology project has been planned at the school, which will be based on the integration and improvement of science and education, the introduction of top-notch talent, and carrying out innovative talent training and cutting-edge academic research.
