The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) announced the results of the project review in the 2022 centralized reception period on Sept 8. Yunnan University received a total of 158 grants in the first batch, with an approved direct funding of 65.43 million yuan ($9.39 million) and an overall funding rate of 22.83 percent. This reflects the major achievements of the school's development of first-class universities and disciplines.
The NSFC focuses on fundamentals, frontiers, talent, innovative teams and interdisciplinary disciplines.
The number of projects in Yunnan University increased by 17.2 percent over last year, funding increased by 24.1 percent over last year, and the funding rate continued to increase as well. Among the projects are two key funds, one outstanding youth fund, and 38 general projects. The number of projects approved by key funds and general projects and the funding rate rank first among universities in Southwest China's Yunnan province.
Indicators such as the total number of projects, number of important projects approved by the national natural science foundation of Yunnan University, and amount in funding hit record highs again. Some projects, such as the NSFC-Yunnan Joint Fund, are still under review, and there is expected to be further breakthrough in total funding this year.
