Sugath Rathnayake, a foreign teacher of the Sinhala major in the School of Foreign Languages of Yunnan University (YNU), recently took part in the filming of the short video "New Era in China", which was launched on the video platform of People's Daily Online. This series of short videos aims to record the real experiences, knowledge and feelings of 40 foreigners in China.
Sugath has spoken highly of his experience in China and has made positive contributions to building a bridge of friendly exchange between China and Sri Lanka.
In 2020, when the Sinhala major of the School of Foreign Languages of Yunnan University was first established, Sugath came to teach at the university and was responsible for its development and personnel training.
In February 2022, Sugath was invited to be interviewed by the program "Foreign Experts in Yunnan" produced by Yunnan province.
In March 2022, Sugath donated 1,000 Sinhala books to Yunnan University to support the development of the major in terms of talent training, teaching and scientific research. To this end, the School of Foreign Languages established the "China-Sri Lanka Friendship Library".
Sugath's donation has attracted widespread attention in Sri Lanka, and more than 10 mainstream media outlets, including Sri Lanka Rupavahini, have reported on it, which has had a positive impact on promoting the friendship between the people of China and Sri Lanka as well as people-to-people and cultural exchange.
