Rural vitalization project in Yunnan University supported by national ministry

The Ministry of Education announced the results of the selection of the "Fifth Provincial Universities and Colleges Precision Assistance Typical Projects" on Sept 26. Yunnan University's technology-driven rural vitalization project was the only selected project in Southwest China's Yunnan province.

The project is led by a team of Liu Dandan, associate professor of the Institute of Resources and Botany of Yunnan University. The project focuses on rural vitalization and inclusive benefits for agriculture, rural areas and farmers, adhering to the concepts of innovation, coordination, greenness, openness and sharing.

Based on the western Yunnan plateau, the project has comprehensively promoted new apple varieties that mature early and new technologies and models, and successfully achieved four goals: introducing temperate fruit into subtropical regions for the first time; building an intelligent apple dwarf stock dense planting test demonstration garden for the first time in the province; guaranteeing planting and fruiting by the first updated technology in the same year; and launching the first, second and third industry-integrated "leading enterprises + bases + farmers + internet" development model in Lincang city's fruit industry for the first time.

The Science and Technology Backyard for Apples built as part of the project was also supported by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the China Association for Science and Technology in 2022, providing a training platform for rural vitalization and innovation and entrepreneurship talent.
