The opening ceremony for the "Training Class for Yunnan Ceramic Design Innovation Helping Rural Vitalization" – a course being conducted by Yunnan University, or YNU, located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – was held recently in Boshang town in the region.
The class is a sub-activity of the "Training Program for Inheritors of China's Intangible Cultural Heritage". Since 2018, Yunnan University has implemented five phases of the program.
It aims to improve the levels of protection for the intangible cultural heritage of pottery making skills in Boshang town. It also aims to help the local government to open production, education, research and innovation channels and boost the development of the local tea pottery industry.
The class organizers have invited 11 well-known experts and professors at Tsinghua University, the China Academy of Arts, Jingdezhen Ceramic University and Yunnan University to form a teaching team. This will provide a month of professional and centralized training for 25 students from nine ceramics-producing areas in the province.
Wang Yihu, secretary of the Party committee of the town, said the event reflected YNU's full support for targeted assistance for the rural vitalization of Boshang, as well the important historical significance of its ceramics industry. YNU, he said, was also fully supporting the expansion of the intangible cultural heritage talent team, the refinement of tea and pottery brands and Boshang's rural vitalization.
