A series of special reading parties was recently held by Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – aimed at creating a strong campus reading atmosphere for students and comprehensively improving their science and humanities literacy.
The reading parties are understood to be a new training model jointly established by Yunnan University and the Institute of Atmospheric Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The program selects a theme every semester and sets up several reading sharing meetings around that theme. The theme content covers a wide range of topics, including history, scientific innovation, and current political thought.
In addition, the reading parties offer rich experiences for the students, who swap their own notes and draw beautiful posters for the books they will share.
To date, 24 reading parties have been held and nearly 100 teachers and students have shared their reading experiences.
