The 2021-2022 board meeting of the Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka (CIDU) in Bangladesh was held online on Oct 29.
The Confucius Institute, in cooperation with Yunnan University (YNU), started operating in May 2016, and the courses there are being taught by YNU Chinese teachers.
Md. Akhtaruzzaman, president of University of Dhaka, and Hu Jinming, vice-president of YNU attended the meeting, as well as directors of the international cooperation offices of the two universities and Chinese and Bangladeshi directors of the Confucius Institute.
The meeting saw the approval of the 2021-2022 work situation, 2023 work plan and 2018-2020 financial report of the Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka.
Discussions were also carried out on projects such as the joint training of undergraduates majoring in Chinese and Bengalese at the two universities and the construction of the China-Bangladesh Research Center, and a consensus was reached on the time and place of the next boarding meeting.
In his speech, Md. Akhtaruzzaman said that University of Dhaka has always attached great importance to the work of the Confucius Institute, and has carried out various forms of exchange and cooperation with Yunnan University and other Chinese universities through the Confucius Institute.
He said that the university will continue to support the work of the Confucius Institute, and said he expects the two universities to strengthen cooperation in language teaching, academic research, joint training and other areas.
Hu Jinming said that with the joint support and efforts of the two universities, the Confucius Institute has developed steadily over the past six years and has become a popular Chinese language and cultural learning center in Bangladesh.
YNU will celebrate its centennial birthday on April 20, 2023. Hu invited Md. Akhtaruzzaman to attend the celebration, and said he expects the two universities to deepen cooperation.
It is also hoped that the Confucius Institute will further improve its teaching ability, serve local needs, promote inter-school cooperation, and bolster its role as bridge for China-Bangladesh educational and cultural friendship, Hu added.
