The main construction of the first phase of the Yunnan Hospital of Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University in Kunming was recently completed.

The project aims to build a regional medical center for neurological diseases based in Southwest China's Yunnan province, serving the southwest China and radiating out to South and Southeast Asia as soon as possible.

The hospital was co-built by the Beijing Tiantan Hospital and Affiliated Hospital of Yunnan University.

In June this year, the Affiliated Hospital of Yunnan University appointed two experts from the Beijing Tiantan Hospital – Zhao Yuanli and Xu Jun – as its academic directors for external and internal medicine.

By October, the two experts had carried out more than 30 difficult operations in such areas as complex hemorrhagic and ischemic cerebrovascular diseases in the Affiliated Hospital of Yunnan University.

With the cooperation between the experts and other departments, the hospital reportedly broke the boundaries of traditional disciplines and created the first one-stop diagnosis and treatment service model for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in Yunnan.

At present, patients from Sichuan, Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Guangxi and other provinces and autonomous regions go there for medical treatment, initially establishing the brand image of the "Yunnan Tiantan Hospital".

Xu said that the second phase construction of the Yunnan Hospital of Beijing Tiantan Hospital would mainly build a national plants medicine research and development center, while actively building a biological sample library and a sample library of animal and plant medicine resources.

Moving forwards, plans are for Beijing Tiantan Hospital and Affiliated Hospital of Yunnan University to continue to work closely together to further accelerate the construction of Beijing Tiantan Hospital Yunnan Hospital.
