The Yunnan sub-forum of the 2022 International Industry-University-Research-Application Cooperation Conference on the Maritime Silk Road – hosted by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education and Yunnan University, or YNU – was held on its campus on Nov 25.
The event was entitled "Plateau Lake Governance and Environmental Protection", with nearly 300 participants involved at YNU – located in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province.
In 2021, YNU became a member institution of the international industry university research cooperation conference mechanism and began to participate in organizing the conference.
In the wake of the 2021 sub-forum, the university has cooperated with many universities in Belgium, Sweden, Canada and other countries to carry out the joint training of Chinese and foreign postgraduates. The first batch of 10 co-trained doctoral students has been recruited.
An international first-class construction discipline recognized by the Ministry of Education, the YNU's ecology discipline has produced a number of scientific and academic achievements in the field. These include findings on plateau lake governance, green and efficient sewage treatment technology, perennial rice cultivation technology and others.
The achievements are widely said to have made significant contributions in serving social and economic development, promoting the construction of a national ecological civilization and promoting the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.
This time, the sub-forum invited experts and academics with rich experience in the field of industry-university-research-cooperation. They came from the ecology discipline at YNU and from well-known overseas universities – such as the University of Miami in the United States and the University of Windsor in Canada.
Experts at the event discussed and exchanged views on issues such as lake wetland treatment, pollutants, climate change, ecosystem restoration and biodiversity protection.
