The 2023 National Postgraduate Entrance Exam was held on Dec 24-25 and Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – was one of the venues for those taking the papers.

Facing serious challenges to the exam caused by the recent outbreak of COVID-19, Yunnan University arranged for more than 700 people – including invigilators, volunteers and service personnel – to assist.

They helped maintain order, helped out with epidemic prevention and security inspections, looked after the examination room environment, as well as lent a hand with health and transport and other support tasks.

In view of the large area of the campus, the university coordinated with a local bus company to arrange free transportation. Those who drove themselves to the exam venue were allowed to enter the campus and park at no charge in a special parking area.

To provide further help, the university set aside special areas in the student canteens for them to eat and rest and provided free ginger soup to keep them warm amid the winter temperatures.
