Yunnan University, or YNU – situated in Kunming, in Southwest China's Yunnan province – is on a total roll, in terms of upgrading its facilities.
Last year, it advanced the construction of the second phase of its Chenggong campus and completed the construction of buildings covering 280,000 square meters of floor space.
Work on major teaching and scientific research infrastructure – including the life sciences laboratory animal center, advanced computing center, scientific research greenhouse and an observatory – has been completed and they have now been put into use. This is said to have improved the teaching and scientific research conditions of the university, by leaps and bounds.
Moreover, YNU has promoted the construction of infrastructure – such as sports centers, modern engineering college buildings, student canteens and student apartments – with an additional construction area of about 100,000 sq m.
Of those projects, the sports center includes athletic fields, comprehensive training halls, indoor constant-temperature swimming pools and fitness trails around the lake.
The campus greening project has continued to be vigorously implemented, with its green area having reached 1,737,100 sq m.
Of particular note, the newly built Yunshan Botanical Garden covers about 200,000 sq m, including various teaching sites, popular science land, ecological parks, as well as health trails.
It is expected to fully meet the needs of teachers and students in terms of teaching practice, scientific research experiments, skills practice, ecological observations and general fitness activities.
In addition, in 2022, the Donglu campus of the university continued to be developed.
Construction there of the Yunnan University History Museum was completed. Elsewhere, the library of the campus was renovated and the office space for the Belt and Road Initiative Research Institute of Yunnan University was completed.
