YNU makes breakthroughs in research platforms, projects

Updated: Jan 9, 2023

Yunnan University, or YNU – located in the city of Kunming in Southwest China's Yunnan province – is currently on a roll, having made a raft of breakthroughs in major research platforms and projects last year.

Throughout 2022, the university built an accomplished research team around a scientific and technological supply chain of "platform-team-project-achievements-talent". Moreover, it campaigned for national major projects, carried out research into key projects, produced landmark research achievements, as well as trained and developed high-end sci-tech people.

In terms of major scientific research platforms, its 1.6-meter multi-channel sky survey telescope – as well as an experimental animal center and an electron microscope center – began operating successively last year.

Of these, the experimental animal center was mainly used to carry out research into cell biology, developmental biology, metabonomics, neurobiology and pathology.

In terms of national major projects, a project that is being led by the university received approval from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, or NSFC, in 2022.

As a result, the project – named "lysosome homeostasis regulation and related diseases" – secured direct funding of 15 million yuan ($2.15 million).

It's being led by Professor Yang Chonglin of YNU's School of Life Sciences and is being jointly applied by the university, the Institute of Biophysics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan University and Capital Medical University.
