Lawmakers and political advisors from Yunnan University in Kunming, the capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province, have actively contributed to Yunnan's high-quality development by making suggestions and voicing their opinions during Yunnan's annual "two sessions", local media reported.

Both the first session of the 14th Yunnan Provincial People's Congress, the province's legislative body, and the first session of the 13th Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the province's political advisory body, were held from Jan 10 through to Jan 15 in Kunming.

A total of 11 Yunnan University faculty members who are also deputies to the provincial People's Congress and members of the CPPCC Yunnan Provincial Committee attended the annual meeting. The meeting focused on Yunnan's future political agenda, as well as mapped out policies for the province's development.

With a strong sense of political responsibility, the Yunnan University lawmakers and political advisors contributed their opinions about issues which included fostering talents who are attending universities or higher education institutions in Yunnan.

According to the agenda of the provincial people's congress, 91 deputies from Yunnan province were elected to the 14th National People's Congress, the nation's top legislature, on Jan 15.

Among them, Gao Wei, a professor and Party secretary of the Yunnan University's School of Law; Zhang Keqin, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering Sciences; and He Yanping (female, Dai ethnic group), a professor from the School of Chemical Science and Technology, were elected as the NPC deputies.

On Jan 17, the 25th meeting for the Standing Committee of the 13th CPPCC National Committee selected new members of the 14th CPPCC National Committee. Lin Wenxun, Party secretary of Yunnan University, and Fang Jingyun, president of the university and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, were among them.
