The influential Yunnan University – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – is promoting Sino-Iranian exchanges.

An international academic seminar named "China-Iran People-to-People Exchanges in the Post-pandemic Era" was held online on Jan 10. This was jointly sponsored by Yunnan University, or YNU, and Al-Mustafa International University, which is located in the city of Qom in Iran.

More than 30 experts, scholars and graduate students participated in the event.

They came from Al-Mustafa International University, the University of Qom and Islamic Azad University in Iran – as well as from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University and the Center of Iranian Studies of Yunnan University in China.

Al-Mustafa International University and YNU already have a history of engagement. They formally signed an agreement on academic and educational exchanges and cooperation in June 2011.

Prior to that, they jointly held several international academic seminars on the dialogue of civilizations and jointly published the proceedings of international academic conferences.

At the seminar, Professor Haji Dehabadi of the University of Qom; Yu Guili, director of the Persian language major at Beijing Foreign Studies University and Hong Tao, an associate professor of the Center of Iranian Studies of Yunnan University, discussed such issues as cooperation between China and Iran's universities, the theory of international relations and Iranian children's literature.

The seminar covered a wide range of topics. This is understood to have set up a platform for future academic exchanges and mutual learning about their civilizations between scholars of the two countries, reflecting the latest achievements in cultural exchanges.
