Standards guide issued on Yunnan's culture, tourism

Updated: Feb 2, 2023

A key guide on culture and tourism in Southwest China's Yunnan province – compiled by Yunnan University, based in the capital Kunming, together with specialist provincial government bodies – was recently issued.

The Department of Culture and Tourism of Yunnan Province released the Guide for the Construction of the Standard System of Culture and Tourism in Yunnan Province (2021-2025).

This is the first guide for a standard system for the integration of culture and tourism in China.

The official website of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism released the news and leading national media such as ChinaNews also reported on it.

The guide was jointly prepared by a research team led by Li Peng, a professor at YNU's School of Business Administration and Tourism Management, together with Yunnan Provincial Market Supervision Administration, the Yunnan Provincial Tourism Standardization Technical Committee and other units.

Li's team has long been engaged in the research of tourism standardization and has done technical support work for many pilot areas and units of tourism standardization, such as Luoyang city in Henan province and Lijiang city in Yunnan province.

For the first time, the guide attempts to combine a standard system for culture and tourism – aiming to promote the commercialization of culture, tourism and the integration of culture and tourism.

In the guide, standards modules are set out separately for culture, tourism and culture and tourism integration.

Culture and tourism integration is seen as the chief feature of the system, while a sub-category for ethnic culture with Yunnan characteristics is set up in the culture category.
