The seventh Thailand Paragliding Accuracy ASEAN Friendships Open was held in Thailand on Feb 10-14 and China put in a strong performance.
Xiong Gang, associate professor at the School of Physical Education of Yunnan University – located in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province – participated in the competition as a member of the Chinese national team.

Xiong won a gold, silver and a bronze medal and was the individual runner-up of all athletes, the individual champion of the group over 50 years old and took third place in the entire group.

A total of 134 athletes from 16 countries – including China, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, Sweden, India, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Spain, the Philippines and Mongolia – participated in the open.
Xiong is understood to have been selected in the Chinese national team seven times since 2016 and has been engaged in relevant research and training. He has won the championships of the Paragliding Accuracy World Cup and the Asian championship and was runner-up of the world championship.
Moving forwards, the Institute of Physical Education of YNU is moving to actively cultivate sports talent and contribute to the realization of a strong sports country.
