Things got lively at the first session of the 14th National People's Congress on the Deputy Channel in Beijing on March 5, which was broadcast live on CCTV-13 news channel.

Zhang Keqin, a deputy to the congress, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Yunnan University – the latter, located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – warned on the deputy channel about nematodes.

He said the microscopic worms in the soil would cause great damage to crops, leading to crop yield reduction or even crop failure.

Zhang said that his team had built a microbial resource bank for nematodes control by making full use of Yunnan province's rich biodiversity resources.

The practice of biological control of nematodes made him feel deeply that technology was the key to ensuring the supply of green and safe agricultural products.
