Yunnan University makes breakthrough in Tibetan Studies

The China Tibetology Research Center recently publicized the list of winners for the fifth Everest Prize for Tibetan Studies in China. Among the participating research teams, the three teams from Yunnan University won one first prize and two third prizes, creating headway for the university to advance in its Tibetology research.

Among the three research projects, "India Tea invading Tibet? – Research Based on Chinese and English Archives and Data" won first prize in the Chinese academic paper category; "On the Coordinated Development of Tibet and the Four Provinces and Regions" won third prize in the monograph Chinese studies category; and "The Second Migration of South Asian Tibetans and the Investigation and Research of Their Present Situation in Europe" won third prize in the Chinese academic papers category.

The Everest Award for Tibetan Studies in China is a national award in the field of Tibetan studies in China. The award was established in 2005 and is held every four years. The selection for this event lasted nearly two years, with 64 final awards.

Yunnan University has been able to stand out in evaluation results this time, as it has been gradually cultivating a Tibetan research team that focuses on major theoretical and practical issues. The team also adheres to the combination of basic research and applied research, which produces rich results.
