Updated: Mar 13, 2023

Two leaders of Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – attended the first session of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held on March 10 in Beijing.

One of them – Fang Jingyun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Yunnan University – was elected as a standing member of the 14th CPPCC National Committee.

Fang has long been engaged in the research of global change ecology, vegetation ecology and biodiversity, plant chemometrics and ecological remote sensing. He is the founder of China's terrestrial carbon cycle research and a leading figure in ecological science.

At the committee, Lin Wenxun, a member of the 14th CPPCC National Committee and secretary of the Party committee of Yunnan University, conducted an interview with Yunnan Radio and Television Station on promoting the development of world-class universities and disciplines in China.

In the interview, Lin pointed out that YNU should give full play to its discipline advantages, promote its high-quality development, as well as cultivate a large number of high-quality talent to meet the needs of society.
