YNU secretary calls for more paleontological research

Updated: Mar 14, 2023

Lin Wenxun, member of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee and secretary of the Party committee of Yunnan University, or YNU, recently called for more research in his field of endeavor when he was interviewed by People's Daily.

YNU is located in Kunming city, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province.

On March 13, a special issue about the two sessions was published in the People's Daily and Lin's article was in it, advocating systematic and comprehensive research and promoting the development of paleontology.

Lin pointed out that the preservation of Yunnan province's fossil resources was significant and the types of those preserved were extensive, which was of great scientific significance.

To enhance the voice of Chinese scholars in the field of international paleontological research, he suggested use be made of Yunnan's paleontological resources to carry out systematic and comprehensive research, promote the development of paleontology, as well as make more theoretical innovations in the early biological evolution, human evolution, biodiversity evolution and other areas.

At the same time, on the basis of theoretical research, Lin suggested that Chinese scholars should further encourage funds and research resources to participate in industrial research related to paleontology, to help promote overall economic and social development.
