Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province – won one silver and five bronze medals in the finals of the 13th Challenge Cup Chinese College Students Entrepreneurship Plans Competition.

The honors were conferred at the closing ceremony in Beijing on March 19.

Since its launch in April 2022, the competition has attracted more than 330,000 entries from 3,011 universities.

The silver award-winning Mocap Movement Housekeeping team of Yunnan University used motion capture equipment and artificial intelligence pose estimation algorithms to put together the country's first folk dance movement library.

Since 2019, the team has visited 23 intangible cultural heritage dance inheritors and over 100 ethnic dancers. It has also been to more than 120 ethnic townships in Yunnan province to collect movements in the field. To date, it has covered all 26 ethnic groups in Yunnan.

At present, the technology involved in the project has been adopted by the Yunnan Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center.

The technology will be further promoted in the application of folk dance movements in the meta-universe, culture and tourism, intelligent sports, game designs and in other commercial uses.
