A total of 200 achievements received awards at the sixth congress of the Yunnan Federation of Social Sciences, held on March 17 in Kunming – capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province.

Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming – won 64 awards there, including 10 first prizes, 24 second prizes and 30 third prizes.

The selection process for the Yunnan Social Science Award lasted for half a year, setting the bar high. The aim was to find high-quality academic achievements including works, papers and research reports. They had to have frontier advantages and new disciplinary perspectives – as well serve the country's economic and social development.

The award was one of nine new provincial-level commendation and award projects set up by Yunnan province. It is currently the highest-level award in the field of philosophy and social sciences in Yunnan.

The recognition of the award-winners is said to be an affirmation of the philosophy and social science staff members who have been deeply engaged in scientific research. At the same time, it also reflects Yunnan's contribution to the development of its academic discipline and pedagogical system of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics.
