A lecture entitled "100 Years of Yunnan University - Cloud Life" took place on March 24 at Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province – with the three-day 2023 Fuxian Lake Life Sciences Forum kicking off there at the same time.
Fang Jingyun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Yunnan University, addressed the opening ceremony of the forum.
In a subsequent speech, Zhang Yuxin, vice president of Zeiss Greater China, which sponsored the forum, called for it to become an enduring academic exchange platform for the life sciences.
During the three-day forum, renowned experts and scholars from many universities and research institutions and representatives of teachers and students at YNU discussed the frontier issues of the life sciences and 23 well-known experts and scholars presented special reports.
The forum is also an important part of the "Centennial Celebration" series of academic activities of Yunnan University. Moreover, the study of the life sciences is a double first-class discipline at YNU.
To date, it has attracted a number of top people, including academicians, and winners of the national outstanding youth science fund. It has received recognition as a State Key Laboratory for Conservation and Utilization of Bio-resources in Yunnan, a Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Chemistry for Natural Resources by the Ministry of Education and has been honored by other academic research institutions.
In addition, it has built the international advanced SPF laboratory animal center and the first-class electron microscope center.
Yunnan University is expected to take the forum as an opportunity to build itself up as an important base for life sciences research and talent training for South and Southeast Asia.
