Yunnan University team surveys minority county

Ximeng Va autonomous county in Southwest China's Yunnan province achieved complete poverty alleviation in 2018 and won the national innovation award for poverty alleviation in 2019.

The Ximeng research team of Yunnan University's China Rural Society Survey Project visited Ximeng from Nov 28 to Dec 15, 2022 and from Jan 15 to Feb 16, 2023.

They visited 22 departments and six sample villages, and completed six village resident questionnaires and 158 individual questionnaires. On Feb 13, the investigation team went to the Ximeng First Middle School to investigate.

During the survey, children often sent candy to, smiled at and hugged team members.

A Va girl who had just begun first grade taught her little sister to say "dad" and "mom" in Mandarin Chinese, showing off the language skills she had acquired at school.

By listening to stories from and observing the lives of ordinary residents in the county, the students from Yunnan University gained a deeper understanding of today's China.
