Liow Tiong Lai, chairman of the Board of the University Tunku Abdul Rahman in Malaysia and Lee Sze Wei, its president, visited Yunnan University, or YNU in Kunming – capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – on April 13.

Faizal Shani, Malaysia's consul-general in Kunming, accompanied the two guests on the trip.

Hu Jinming, vice president of Yunnan University and the leaders of its department of international cooperation and exchanges and the Malay language department at its School of Foreign Languages received the guests.

Liow congratulated YNU on its upcoming centenary on April 20. He expressed the hope that the two sides could carry out substantive cooperation in developing the accounting ACCA major, architecture discipline and other subjects at the University Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Hu said that with Yunnan University about to celebrate its 100th year, the visit of the guests from the University Tunku Abdul Rahman would play a positive role in promoting future cooperation between the two sides.

He hoped they could join hands in regional and country studies, international Chinese education, the joint training of non-common language students and building enrollment bases for international students.

Additionally, Faizal Shani said the Malaysian Consulate General in Kunming would promote joint efforts between China and Malaysia, invite Yunnan University to cooperate in holding a China-Malaysia higher education cooperation forum, as well as support the development of a Malay language major in Yunnan University.
