Yunnan University sci-tech station trains agricultural talent

Updated: May 10, 2023

Teachers and students of the Yunnan University Perennial Rice Sci-tech Station in Manla village, Southwest China's Yunnan province, have been busy fertilizing rice.

Hu Fengyi, dean of the School of Agriculture of Yunnan University, and his team rented 50 mu (3.33 hectares) of land in Manla village as a test field in 2020, and the small sci-tech station was then officially launched. In the past three years, the station has set off one technological revolution after another in rice production and explored a new model for cultivating graduate students in agriculture.

"The establishment of the sci-tech station allows perennial rice technology to be quickly used by farmers, increasing agricultural production and farmers' incomes. More importantly, we want to cultivate a group of innovative talent in agricultural science and technology," Hu said.

The sci-tech station has so far trained 42 agricultural graduate students and obtained seven training achievements. The teachers and students of the station have jointly published 13 sci-tech papers, approved three varieties, and obtained two patents.

Meanwhile, with the perennial rice sci-tech station as a model, Yunnan University has successively established flower, apple, coffee and other sci-tech stations and cooperated with the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other sci-tech units.
