Yunnan University remains devoted to sci-tech research

Updated: May 17, 2023

After Yunnan University celebrated its 100th anniversary on April 20, many of the achievements of its scientific research team have attracted attention, highlighting the team's caliber and strength.

A team from the university's Palaeontological Research Institute recently published a paper in an international journal. The researchers used advanced techniques to reveal the body shape and appendages of a fossil from Chengjiang biota in Southwest China's Yunnan province.

Over the years, the team has published its research results on many occasions, making the Chengjiang biota the focus of paleontological and evolutionary biological studies on a global level.

Supported by such efforts and achievements, the biota has been included in UNESCO's World Natural Heritage List. A natural history museum has also been established at the site where the fossil was discovered.

Yunnan is one of the best astronomical observation bases in China. At present, the 1.6-meter multi-channel photometric survey telescope – jointly developed by Yunnan University and a number of research institutes – has been put into use at Lijiang Observation Station of Yunnan Astronomical Observatories.

It is the first time in the world that a multi-channel high-precision photometric survey with a larger light aperture and a larger field of view has been realized.
