Yunnan University helps stage key English seminar

The 2023 National College English Teaching Reform and Development Seminar was held in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province, on May 12.

Yunnan University in Kunming and the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press co-sponsored the event, with the theme of "innovating curriculum designs, improving ideological and political education".  

Nearly 1,000 foreign language education experts and academics, teaching administrators and front-line teachers attended, with more than 10,000 teachers participating online.

At the opening ceremony, Wu Jian, vice-president of Yunnan University, said the seminar was a key annual event in the field of higher foreign language education and had far-reaching significance in helping the construction and development of English education in colleges.

Wu added that after a hundred years of development, Yunnan University had formed a talent training model with its own and regional characteristics, achieving great results in teaching and scientific research.

After the opening ceremony, Professor Yu Hongliang from Yangzhou University, Professor Xiang Mingyou from the University of International Business and Economics and Professor Hu Jiehui from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China gave keynote reports, respectively.

At the seminar, the organizing committee set up a special presentation and evaluation on ideological and political education in English courses, to exchange experiences.

As part of that, Professor Zhang Mei at the School of Foreign Languages at Yunnan University and Zhang Xun, an associate professor at the Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, shared their thoughts.
