Ceramics workstation ranked among 50 'national excellent projects'

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism recently released the results of the 2021-22 performance appraisal of China's Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritors Training Program.

A project dubbed the Ceramic Firing Skills Help Rural Vitalization Workshop was among top 50 in China appraised as being of "excellent" quality. The project is jointly implemented by Yunnan University's Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture Inheritance Base, Professor Wu Baiyu's team from the university's School of Art and Design, and other departments.

From Oct 10 to Nov 4, 2022, the workshop conducted a total of 26 days of teaching in Wanyao village of Boshang town in Southwest China's Yunnan province. From Nov 5, 2022 to May 31, 2023, it guided trainees on innovation and creativity in the ceramic tea set industry.

Through research and training, the project team from Yunnan University also supported the reconstruction project of the old village committee in Wanyao village, and created a workstation for intangible cultural heritage that can exhibit works while also providing training to help rural vitalization efforts.

With the ceramics project at its core, Boshang town has developed rapidly. By the end of 2022, Boshang and Wanyao were selected as provincial beautiful and green towns and villages, respectively.

The project team will continue to support Yunnan University's efforts to help rural vitalization with national influence, and deeply integrate the preservation of intangible cultural heritage in Yunnan's future development.
