Wang Zongping, dean of the School of Physical Education of Yunnan University, led a team of 19 athletes (including nine on the men's team and ten on the women's team) to participate in the 2023 National Kabaddi Championship in Hangzhou from June 1 to 6.

After intense competition, the Yunnan University team won the women's national third and men's national fifth prizes.

Kabaddi, a popular sport in South Asia, gained recognition as an official sport at the 1990 Asian Games held in Beijing. The Hangzhou Championship marked the country's first national competition for Kabaddi, featuring the participation of 18 teams from across the nation.

In 2021, Yunnan University established its very own Kabaddi sports team, marking a significant milestone in the university's efforts to actively integrate into the education of China's surrounding regions and engage in international education cooperation and exchange. This competition serves as a crucial step towards achieving these goals.
