Yunnan University’s Vice President Hu Jinming briefed the guests on the university and the exchanges and cooperation with other higher schools of learning in Sri Lanka.

Hu said that as part of efforts to promote both Yunnan and the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka, Yunnan University and the Eastern University of Sri Lanka have signed a memorandum of cooperation and discussed ways of working together on building a Confucius Institute, jointly training talents, as collaborating on scientific research.

Hewage said the governor of Eastern Province attaches great importance to cooperation with Yunnan, and will give it his full support.

Both sides welcomed each other's teachers and students to visit their universities, and said they looked forward to fruitful cooperation between the two sides.

In addition to discussing the establishment of a Confucius Institute, the two sides had in-depth exchanges on specific areas of cooperation such as international Chinese education cooperation, student exchanges, launching a major in Sinhala, and offering different country studies in Sri Lanka.
