YNU co-hosts biogeography congress

The 3rd Biogeography Congress and Southwest Biodiversity Conservation Forum, hosted by the Geographical Society of China (GSC) and Yunnan University (YNU), were held in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province, on Sept 15-17.

More than 1,000 experts, scholars, and graduate students from 206 universities and research institutions across the country attended the event.

Focusing on biogeographical patterns and processes amid global changes, the congress provided a platform for discussions on new achievements in international biogeography theories, methods, technologies, and applications.

At the opening ceremony, He Daming, vice chairman of the GSC and a professor at YNU, delivered a welcome speech, and Liu Bo, vice president of YNU, gave a speech on behalf of the university.

In addition, 10 renowned biogeography experts gave keynote speeches at the congress.

The conference also featured parallel sessions on nine active research topics in biogeography and hosted three special forums. More than 160 oral presentations and 50 poster presentations were delivered at the sessions and forums, with an additional 80 reports presented by graduate students.

During the closing ceremony, the organizing committee announced that the next congress will be hosted by Lanzhou University.
