Yunnan University team researches port city

Updated: Sep 22, 2023

On the 10th anniversary of the initial proposal for the Belt and Road Initiative, students and teachers from the School of Journalism and Communication at Yunnan University conducted research in the border city of Lincang, Southwest China's Yunnan province, from Sept 10 to 13.

The team visited various ports, including Qingshuihe and Nansan Port, as well as local industrial parks in Lincang. Through on-site visits, lectures, and discussions with local enterprises, they gained a comprehensive understanding of Lincang's role in the national Belt and Road Initiative, the construction of the China-Myanmar-India Ocean Corridor, and the development of local industrial parks.

Lincang, as a border city, has actively integrated into the Belt and Road Initiative and has made strides in economic, trade and cultural exchanges with neighboring countries.

Graduate student Wang Yusen from Yunnan University was particularly interested in port construction, saying, "Lincang is at the forefront of the China-Myanmar economic corridor and is Yunnan's gateway to South Asia and Southeast Asia. It is well-suited to the construction of the China-Myanmar border and the open economic belt along the border."

Furthermore, Lincang has developed a distinctive tourism industry relying on its unique border location. Team member Lin Wei said, "The border areas in Lincang boast ecological beauty. Combining the development of special tourism with port construction is an innovative approach."
