Southwest United Graduate School welcomes freshmen

Southwest United Graduate School held its opening ceremony at Yunnan Normal University on Sept 25. The school this year enrolled 210 doctoral students and 493 master's degree students.

The construction and operation of the graduate school was led by Yunnan University – with the participation of the Kunming University of Science and Technology, Yunnan Normal University, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University. The graduate school boasts 323 doctoral supervisors.

Department of Education of Yunnan Province director Wang Yunfei attended the ceremony and stressed the need to accelerate the training system and scientific research of the graduate school.

Yunnan University president Fang Jingyun delivered a speech. He said that the graduate school was committed to developing into a platform for talent training and high-level scientific research – adding that it was also a test base for reform and innovation of higher education.

On the same day, the University-Enterprise Cooperation Salon of Southwest United Graduate School was held in Yunnan University, setting up two sub-venues for biomedicine and metallurgy, materials and chemical industry.

Focusing on the needs of sci-tech innovation in the two major fields, representatives from enterprises and doctoral supervisors of the graduate school discussed the topic of industrial development at the salon.

They aimed to seek sci-tech cooperation between the graduate school and enterprises.
