A team led by Pan Wenbo, director of the Planting Industry Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, paid a visit to Yunnan University's Jinghong Field Experimental Station and Menghai (Manla) Field Experimental Station on Oct 11. The purpose of the visit was to conduct on-site inspections and research regarding the planting of perennial rice.
Arriving during the late flowering stage of the late-season rice crop, Pan's team first visited the Jinghong Field Experimental Station, where they were briefed in detail on the history and development of long-term research into rice.
They also examined the growth status and genetic improvement experiments of long-term rice in the field. Pan expressed his appreciation for the innovative germplasm development and breeding work on perennial rice by the faculty and students of the station.
Subsequently, the team proceeded to the Menghai (Manla) Field Experimental Station, where they assessed the ongoing experiments involving perennial rice and the talent training model of the university's Perennial Rice Technology Institute.
After listening to the presentations from the faculty and students, Pan praised its perennial rice breeding, cultivation techniques, and institute management model. He also offered valuable guidance for their future work.
