The "Activating Lincang Tea Pottery Industry, Practicing Intangible Cultural Heritage to Aid Rural Vitalization" project of Yunnan University has been selected as a typical project in the "Sixth Provincial University Targeted Assistance Program", as announced by the Ministry of Education.
Tea pottery refers to ceramic products associated with tea culture. These ceramics are closely related to the processes of preparing, brewing, and tasting tea, becoming an integral part of tea culture. Tea pottery includes various utensils such as teapots, teacups, tea trays, and tea canisters.
The project was led by Yunnan University Professor Wu Baiyu and his team specializing in Yunnan's history and culture of ceramics.
The initiative aims to capitalize on Lincang's rich ancient tea tree resources, high-quality clay, and longstanding tea pottery culture, with a focus on creating a brand for Lincang tea pottery cultural products to promote rural vitalization.
A tea pottery practice base in Lincang was recently established by Yunnan University, offering intangible cultural heritage training courses, developing distinctive crafts, and innovating ceramic design.
In 2022, the Yunnan Ceramic Firing Technique for Rural Vitalization Class (Lincang Special) at the base was recognized as an excellent project by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
