Updated: Jan 10, 2024

The 60th anniversary commendation ceremony for China's medical aid teams abroad was held in Beijing on Dec 29, 2023.

Dai Zheng, former captain of the 16th batch of the Chinese medical aid team to Uganda and deputy chief physician of the Department of Anesthesia at Yunnan University Affiliated Hospital, represented Yunnan province at the ceremony.

Since 1991, Yunnan University Affiliated Hospital has dispatched a total of 75 medical personnel to Uganda as part of the Chinese government's medical aid teams.

In addition, after the major earthquake in Nepal in 2015, the hospital sent four medical personnel to join the Chinese government's medical and epidemic prevention team to participate in epidemic prevention efforts.

In recent years, the hospital has dispatched medical teams to Myanmar and Laos five times. They were mainly placed in eye care clinics, where they performed a total of 1,211 cataract surgeries and established good international doctor-patient relationships with local communities.

While expanding public health cooperation through these clinics, the hospital also helped train a large number of local medical personnel.

Moving forward, the hospital will actively engage in international medical aid efforts, making new and greater contributions to building a healthy global community that is committed to advancing peace and development.
