YNU engages in international exchanges, cooperation

In 2023, Yunnan University, or YNU achieved breakthroughs in international talent education and training, international platform construction, faculty development and opening up to foreign education.

The university sent 288 students abroad for exchange and study programs, and recommended multiple students to do internships, work, or serve as overseas volunteers at international organizations. These included the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the African Development Bank and the ASEAN University Network. Additionally, 165 faculty members of the university were sent abroad for academic exchanges and collaborative research.

The university hosted 310 foreign visitors, including Nepal's vice president, media from countries along the Lancang-Mekong River Basin, as well as cooperating institutions from abroad – facilitating the signing of 19 new academic cooperation agreements and hosting 13 international conferences.

The university strengthened the construction of language and cultural overseas practice platforms.

It participated in the establishment of four Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms in Bangladesh, Iran and Myanmar – promoting Chinese language learning and cultural exchanges.

Most notably, students from the Confucius Institute at the University of Tehran in Iran won second prize in the "Chinese Bridge" World University Chinese Competition global finals.

In addition, the university also conducted 20 sessions of Chinese training programs for countries including India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Vietnam.
