In 2023, Yunnan University placed a strong emphasis on cultivating undergraduate talents, and has since improved its talent cultivation system and witnessed a new surge in its students' innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities.

The university's students achieved remarkable success in the 2023 China International College Students Innovation Competition, securing two gold awards, one silver award, and eight bronze awards.
A total of 822 university-level innovation and entrepreneurship projects were initiated, with 108 projects receiving the national approval and 270 projects receiving the provincial approval.
Additionally, six Yunnan University projects were selected to be introduced at the 16th National Conference on Undergraduate Innovation, ranking fourth among all universities nationwide.
The university also achieved success in the Yunnan Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, securing one first prize and three third prizes, leading all universities in Yunnan province.
According to the Chinese Association of Higher Education, Yunnan University organized 84 competitions on varying disciplines and hosted over 10 provincial-and national-level competitions in 2023.
The university has also made efforts to strengthen the construction of experimental teaching centers, with four national-level experimental teaching demonstration centers currently undergoing inspection by the Ministry of Education.
Additionally, the university established four cross-school joint internship bases and 19 industry-education-integration innovation practice bases in 2023, showcasing its commitment to cultivating an excellent talent pool.
