The Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Bureau, Yunnan Provincial Meteorological Bureau and Yunnan University signed a framework agreement on April 25, to jointly promote the high-quality development of meteorology at the university – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province.
Under the agreement, the three parties will focus on strengthening cooperation in such key areas as intelligent forecasting and warnings for hazardous weather, the Zhujiang River Basin meteorological security services, as well as meteorological forecasting for South and Southeast Asia.
Fang Jingyun, president of Yunnan University, said in a keynote address that the agreement would have a very positive multiplier effect.
It would support close exchanges and cooperation among the three parties in conducting hazardous weather forecasting and warning, climate change adaptation and other aspects related to the Zhujiang River Basin, Fang added.
Cao Xiaozhong, deputy director of the China Meteorological Administration, pointed out in his address that the partners would jointly promote the deep integration of scientific research achievements and operational applications.
Yin Xiaoyi, director of Yunnan Provincial Meteorological Bureau, and Zeng Cong, deputy director of Guangdong Provincial Meteorological Bureau, also delivered speeches. They discussed the progress and prospects for the construction of the Yunnan provincial regional rapid assimilation weather forecasting system, which is jointly being developed by the three parties.
