On April 20, 2024, Yunnan University celebrated the 101st anniversary of its founding. Over the last year, the university has remained committed to opening-up and fostering friendly exchanges with countries in South and Southeast Asia.

In 2023, the university sent 288 students abroad for exchange programs, as well as organized for some students to join international organizations as interns, employees, and volunteers. These organizations include the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, the African Development Bank, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Universities Network.

Last year, the university hosted 310 foreign visitors for exchanges, including the vice president of Nepal and members of the Thai Senate. It also facilitated the signing of 19 new academic cooperation agreements and 13 international conference agreements.

In 2023, the university established four incubation centers in Cambodia, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam, and completed the final reports for four projects on country and regional studies.

Additionally, the university made efforts to enhance collaboration with four Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms in Bangladesh, Iran, and Myanmar. The university also organized 96 cultural exchange events such as "China-Bangladesh Cultural and Art Day" and "International Chinese Language Day". These events have promoted Chinese language learning, cultural exchanges, and academic research.
