The 2024 Yunnan Province Third Campus Loong and Lion Dance Competition – organized by the Yunnan Student Sports Association – was held on June 9 in Qujing city, in Southwest China's Yunnan province.
The Loong in China holds profound meaning and symbolism, reflecting a rich tapestry of mythology, history and astrological beliefs.
The Loong and lion dance team from the School of Physical Education at Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Yunnan – was led by Vice Dean Chen Hengxing, with coach Xian Hui as well as five students from the School of Physical Education and from the School of Government Management taking part.

Before heading to Qujing, the team staged a Loong and lion dance performance on June 6 at an official banquet in Kunming, celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia.
Three days later – after a hard-fought competition – Yunnan University's Loong and lion dance team impressed the judges and audience with superb skills and a creative performance. As a result, the YNU team won second prize in the men's group and the best creativity award.

Since its establishment, the Yunnan University Loong and lion dance team is said to have really committed itself to preserving and promoting Chinese traditional culture. Overall, it's felt that the team's performances have showcased its solid training foundation and team spirit.
