The Chinese University Martial Art Routine Championship, organized by the China University Sports Association – under the auspices of the National Ministry of Education – was held in Harbin, capital city of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, on June 4-8.
Instructor Zeng Yihan from the School of Physical Education at Yunnan University, or YNU – based in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – led graduate students Wang Zhi and Shi Bingyu to success in the event.
Wang won a gold medal in Xing Yi Quan – a Chinese martial art form – and a bronze medal in Hong Quan, which is another Chinese martial art form.
Meanwhile, Shi won a gold medal in Nandao, a traditional Chinese broadsword event.
These achievements are said to have marked a breakthrough for Yunnan University's martial arts team, winning its first-ever gold medals in a national university martial arts contest.
